Why learning needs more play: meet CHRONES. at Didacta Italia 2026 in Florence
Game-based learning, interactive storytelling and immersive classes: let’s talk about the future of education at Didacta.
Every year Florence hosts one of the most important events in Europe dedicated to innovation in education. For a few days teachers, researchers, schools and organizations meet to exchange ideas about how learning is changing.
Next week CHRONES. will be at Didacta Italia as well, the perfect place to start conversations about something that is becoming increasingly central in education: learning through experience.
Education Is Slowly Becoming More Experiential
Education is going through a quiet transformation. For a long time teaching has been organized around explanation and transmission of knowledge. The teacher speaks, the students listen, the lesson progresses through concepts that must be absorbed and remembered.
Today many educators are exploring a different approach. Learning becomes more effective when people actively participate in the process. Understanding grows when knowledge is connected to action, decisions and collaboration. This is why approaches based on simulation, storytelling and play are appearing more and more often in educational environments. They allow learners to explore a situation instead of simply hearing about it.
Why Play Matters in Learning
Play has always been one of the most natural ways humans learn. It allows us to experiment with possibilities, to try strategies, to interact with others and to observe the consequences of our choices. Game based learning builds on this natural mechanism and adapts it to educational contexts. A well designed learning game creates a structured environment where knowledge is experienced directly.
At CHRONES., we work on experiences that combine narrative design, simulation and interactive systems to support this kind of learning. Sometimes the experience takes the form of a game, sometimes it becomes a story that participants can influence, sometimes it evolves into a simulation where a group explores a complex scenario together.
What matters is not the format itself but the quality of the experience. When people are involved in what is happening, learning becomes more memorable.
