When we present SEPHIROT® INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE to a museum, a cultural institution or a company, there is always a moment when the question arises: “But what if it doesn’t work?”. We collected the 5 most common reasons you think VR isn’t for you – SEPHIROT® will change your mind!

Will the experience work with our audience? Our timelines? Our resources? It’s a legitimate question. SEPHIROT® is not a “ready-made” service: it’s a living system, a modular ecosystem, a performative and technological tool designed to adapt to very different contexts. And that’s exactly where its strength lies.

SEPHIROT® INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE is an interactive storytelling experience that combines live performance, virtual reality, and game dynamics. Through customizable narrative simulations, participants are asked to make decisions, influence the course of events, engage in dialogue with characters, and move through digital environments. It’s a system designed to transform training, cultural dissemination, and engagement into memorable experiences.

In this article, we examine the 5 most common concerns we encounter during our initial conversations with potential partners, and explain how each doubt is actually a design opportunity in disguise.

We don’t have VR headsets!

Good news: we take care of everything! We provide headsets, joysticks, spare batteries, hygienic covers, cables, and accessories: a complete kit for every participant. All the necessary hardware is supplied, set up, and managed by our technical team.

And here’s a secret: SEPHIROT® also works without virtual reality!

Our system is available in both hybrid and fully analog versions and is specifically designed to maximise accessibility. Of course, using VR adds a powerful layer of immersion and data retention, but it’s not essential. In many experiences, participants interact through physical actions, props, or digital interfaces like screens and cameras.

Our audience isn’t used to VR.

Perfect. They’re the ideal audience.

SEPHIROT® doesn’t require technical skills or prior experience with virtual environments. The interactions are guided, intuitive, and designed to be accessible, even for those who have never worn a headset. Each experience includes a short tutorial and continuous support from live performer-facilitators who are there to guide, explain, and accompany participants every step of the way.

More than that: SEPHIROT® flips the logic of traditional storytelling. While in literature the author imagines an “implied reader” (as theorised by Iser and Jauss), in SEPHIROT®, it’s the experience that adapts to the participant. The system changes shape, responds to input, and reshapes itself based on who is playing. You don’t need to be the right audience: you become it by playing!

What if we just used videos instead of live actors? Humans aren’t scalable!

We get this a lot. People often ask: can’t we just record the content, do it all on video, and avoid involving real performers? The answer is: yes, you can do that, but it won’t be SEPHIROT® anymore.

One of the key elements of our system is live, human interaction with professional actors. That’s where unpredictability is born, where co-creation happens, and where every participant truly feels immersed in the experience. As Jesse Schell points out, the so-called “multiple endings” in interactive games often lead to frustration, players wonder if they got the “right” ending and shift into evaluation mode instead of active participation. Replaying to see all the endings also leads to repetition, slowdown, and loss of surprise.

That risk doesn’t exist in SEPHIROT®: there is no ending more correct than another. All endings are consistent with the narrative premise and the choices made by each participant. And repetition is never the same, every run is different because it’s played with live performers who respond in real time, change tone, interpretation, and strategy.

We could never replace people with video: the relational liveness is what brings meaning, depth, and authentic replayability. In SEPHIROT®, replaying is not “repeating.” It’s transforming.

If we can’t integrate it into our program, it’s a wasted expense.

That’s understandable. But SEPHIROT® is not a fixed format, it’s a medium.

A format is a predefined structure for content or an experience, with set rules, timing, and methods: it is repeatable and recognizable, like a TV quiz show that always follows the same steps (“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”), an educational workshop with a fixed outline, or a traveling exhibition with a standard layout. In essence, it’s a recipe: you can recreate it anywhere, but the ingredients and steps remain the same.

A medium, on the other hand, is a channel or environment through which different contents and structures can be delivered: it is flexible, adaptable, and potentially infinite. Like television, which can broadcast quiz shows, documentaries, or films; theatre, which can host tragedies, comedies, or experimental performances. In this sense, a medium is like a fully equipped kitchen: it doesn’t dictate what you must cook, but it gives you the tools to do it.

That’s why SEPHIROT® is not a fixed format, but a medium: a technological and performative system that can be combined in ever-changing ways, generating unique formats tailored to each specific context, that adapts to your language, your needs, your constraints, your events, and your programming. We design customised experiences: we can start from tested formats or co-create new ones together. Flexibility is our design strength.

Additionally, the experiences have post-event value: data collected in clusters, educational materials, and personalised narratives to share with your audience. Every experience comes with an “after,” which can enrich your programming, your offerings, and your identity.

Our staff doesn’t have time to learn a new tool.

We get it! That’s exactly why they don’t have to. Just like the hardware, we bring the human resources too: technicians, facilitators, performers, and tutors take care of everything, from setup to welcome, from game mastering to feedback collection, all the way to post-event reporting.

And if you do want to be involved, we can train your staff or a local group, creating continuity in the area and increasing autonomy in using the system. But only if that’s what you want.

Convinced, yet?

All the concerns we encounter share a common thread: the assumption that SEPHIROT® is “a technology to manage.” But in reality, it’s the opposite. SEPHIROT® is an experience system where technology, performance, and design blend to create immersion, agency, and deep engagement.

You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be willing to experiment. That’s why we don’t ask for blind trust. We offer demos and interactive presentations, because we’re the first to want to design experiences that truly work, for you, and with you.
